Southern Tier Catholic School and Archbishop Walsh Academy are pleased to recognize Maria Rickert, 8th grade, Miss Maria Rickert an eighth-grader at Southern Tier Catholic School/Archbishop Walsh Academy has been awarded the first Tim Russert Scholarship in Creative Writing by the Buffalo Diocese for her short story, “Alone.” The award goes to a young writer in middle school who demonstrates strengths not only in Writing Skills but also in Classroom Leadership and Charisma, and Maria is the first winner chosen. The award is a $1500 tuition scholarship. Maria will receive her award at the ceremony on Friday, February 21st, at the Buffalo-Niagara Convention Center where she will be accompanied by her family along with a contingent of Walsh/STCS Board Trustees, school administrators, and faculty.
