The Montessori program at Southern Tier Catholic School is available for children ages 3-5 with both half day and full day options. This educational approach has enabled children the ability to learn, grow and explore their educational environment to the fullest through the Montessori philosophy based on Dr. Maria Montessori principles and methods of following the child. The program will allow your child to achieve the necessary components to not only transition smoothly to further education but guide your child to self discovery, awareness, confidence and adaptability to succeed within the classroom's walls and beyond.
Montessori helps expand a child's personal aptitudes, interests, social skills and self-confidence in a focused, yet interactive environment. The basis of Montessori practice in the classroom is respected individual choice of research and work, and uninterrupted concentration rather than group lessons led by an adult. In a Montessori classroom, children are allowed to choose activities that interest them as individuals while also being expected to adhere to a code of social conduct that is reasonable and age-appropriate. A Montessori classroom contains three main areas of focus with appropriate materials: Practical Life, Sensorial and Academic. A Montessori education focuses on helping a child develop his or her "whole self." Each teacher is Montessori Certified and has earned many years experience in a true Montessori classroom.
